Master of Education – Talent Development Portfolio of Evidence
Texas State University, 2021

This portfolio showcases evidence from my practicum in Talent Development, completed as part of my Master of Education in Secondary Education with a concentration in Creativity, Talent, and Transformation and a minor in Diversity Studies. Each artifact reflects applied practice, critical reflection, and integration of theory into my teaching and learning contexts.

1. Skilled Practice
To strengthen my creative engagement tools for science education, I developed proficiency in drawing kawaii science characters. This process incorporated deliberate practice, chunking, and proceduralization to build skill fluency and adapt the art form to my instructional materials. By aligning student interests in anime-style imagery with lesson content, I created relatable visual assets to support engagement and retention.

2. Creativity
In both General Science and Conceptual Physics courses, I implemented an arts-based research project. Students conducted guided inquiry, evaluated sources, and synthesized findings into a creative artifact representing their research. Projects demonstrated originality, task-appropriateness, and alignment with Barone and Eisner’s (2006) criteria for arts-integrated research. This approach fostered divergent and convergent thinking, strengthened research literacy, and built confidence in creative problem-solving.

3. Equity
Drawing on personal experience as an adoptive parent across cultural categories, I critically engaged with literature on transracial adoption, racial identity formation, and systemic inequities. This reflection deepened my understanding of race socialization, equity, and justice in education, and informed strategies for fostering inclusive learning environments that affirm diverse identities.

Together, these experiences illustrate my commitment to designing equitable, creative, and skill-rich learning experiences.
