Two Versions, One Goal: Exploring Academic Integrity
This academic integrity module was originally developed for Dreaming Spires Home Learning at the request of founder Kat Patrick. The first version, without a chatbot, delivers interactive lessons, gamified quizzes, and a final escape-room challenge. Based on feedback from learners and colleagues, I refined the design and used it as the foundation for my Master of Science capstone project.
For the capstone, I created a second version integrating Ouli, an AI chatbot designed to provide scaffolding, encourage reflection, and serve as a collaborative learning partner. This allowed me to compare learner experiences and perceptions of cognitive load in AI-supported versus independent learning environments.
Both versions aim to empower students to understand and apply the principles of academic integrity—one through a purely self-guided experience, and the other with AI-enhanced support.

Academic Integrity Module – Independent Learning Version

This original version was created for Dreaming Spires Home Learning and designed as a fully self-paced e-learning experience. Students explore key principles of academic integrity through interactive lessons, gamified quizzes, and a final escape-room challenge. Without AI assistance, learners rely solely on in-module resources to navigate concepts, assess understanding, and apply skills.

Academic Integrity Module – AI Chatbot Enhanced

For my M.S. capstone, this version builds upon the original by integrating Ouli, an AI chatbot learning companion. Ouli supports learners by answering questions, encouraging reflection, and helping clarify concepts in real time. This design allowed me to explore how chatbot integration impacts learner experience and perceptions of cognitive load while maintaining the module’s interactive, gamified structure.
